Hello!!! As you all know my name is Kimmy K I came up with that name in the 6th grade knowing I was an artist and entertainer at a very young age, and well every artist and entertainer needs a name. My title is DJ Kimmy K, and I have been spinning since 1998, I began my career not even knowing I would become a DJ . In 1996 I went to school for Journalism and Mass Communications - from there I was destined to start my career.I would keep seeing a station called 'Y-100' for work in school, I kept denying wanting to work for a radio station, as it never crossed my mind; week after week this station kept appearing to me, even in the mall a job fair was taking place and AL CHIO of Y-100 said "Come out and work for us personally", I said "no thanks", so again the next week followed and I said to myself "Maybe I need to look into this radio career,as it sure seems to be calling me."
From there I stepped foot into the radio station and was remembered from the mall. I started very low on the chain and worked myself up into the studio doing all hours of the night. I had a lot to learn and it was a bit complicated learning all the software, calls, voice overs, commericals all at once, but thank God I had a good trainer and I mastered it! I got offered a show with Rich Rodriquez every Friday evening from 6pm-10pm as a co-host for a top 20 count down and stayed working with Y-100 for 4 years, until I landed a job at Walt Disney World, Orlando at Pleasure Island.
I beat out over 72 DJ's world wide from New York, Italy, France, and more; as I walked in they said "Can I help you?" I said "Can a girl not try out??"
They aplogized and said "Yes of course; we just didn't expect any females."
As I took my turn on the stage, people rushed from everywhere to see me spin and MC , everyone there was blown away as I was given 20 minutes over the 2 minutes everyone else got. The main managers asked me to do intro's, beat mixes and watched over me to make sure it wasn't a premixed CD, and in this business people do really cheat out there. As I walked off the BET soundstage, everyone competing with me said I got it. The next auditon was live in front of a live night club crowd; I had no idea, and on top of it I was asked to VIDEO MIX something I have never done while speaking to the crowd at once. Well I got it. :)
From there I began my own DJ Company called Kimmy K Productions where I DJ'd night clubs such as China White - now known as Jet Set, Elements with Pandora events, New Moon in Wilton Manors, as well as parties for the CEO's of huge entertainment corparations and local celebrites. I also continued into underground stations and AM stations. Kimmy K Productions is still out there doing parties and on to the next phase of entertainment. TV, I have been an extra in MTV and 3 music videos as well as an extra in the movie, "Wild Things". I have become the Ast.Director of an Indie Film, "Bumping Off Burt" and now onto my second DJ Business.
